Adventist Lifestyles

By Charissa Ettinoffe

When you think of one’s lifestyle you may visualize the beliefs, values, attitude, habits, and behaviors of that person. That individual’s overall manner of living day to day is one that will display who they really are and what that person stands for. As an Adventist, we are to exemplify the lifestyle described biblically when building or constructing bridges of hope. In order to build bridges of hope, we have to be the same example to others that Christ has been for us.

As Christians and Adventist, we can build bridges of hope through our daily practices or lifestyle which includes but is not limited to:

  1. Relationships
  2. Health and Diet
  3. Family
  4. Ministries
  5. Work
  6. Church

The Adventist lifestyle is one that resembles the love of Christ and follows the teachings of the Holy Scriptures.  As Christians, we are taught and believe that we are to act and think in agreement with God. As we build bridges of hope, God’s promises automatically comes to mind. In order to receive God’s promises we must first do what Romans 12: 1-2 commands of us:

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

In order to hope in Christ, our minds must be transformed to believe and live a way of life that is pleasing and acceptable to God. Throughout the Bible God has demonstrated His grace and mercy so that we can have hope in our earthly lives to live an eternal life with him. In 1 John 10 Christ states that he has come so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. We can have this promise and many more as we continue to develop our body and mind.

The Adventist lifestyle is not just a list of rules to follow. It is a way of life in Christ.  So continue to pray for each other and provide service to all mankind. After all true Christianity is to give the true essence of love and receive the true essence of love from God.
